Edinburgh Castle Rock Box marks its 70th Anniversary

Our iconic yellow and tartan Edinburgh Castle Rock Box marks its 70th anniversary this year.

The box was created and introduced for sale for the first Edinburgh International Festival in 1947. Previously, Edinburgh Castle Rock had been sold in loose sticks, or in chips. The silhouette of the Castle on the front of the box is from the doorway of a greengrocer’s shop in the middle of Princes Street. The owner agreed to launch the packaging with a prominent window display in exchange for exclusive rights for the first summer.  The stock made for the launch was sold out in three weeks!

Now, as the 70th Edinburgh International Festival is about to start, our Edinburgh Castle Rock can be found in many of the shops in Edinburgh, on Princes Street and The Royal Mile.

Customers are also able to purchase our Edinburgh Castle Rock boxes in either 4 sticks, 6 sticks or 12 sticks from our website, and select them as part of their Sweetie Subscription Box.
